"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it."
~ Isaiah 55: 10-11
Yesterday was Sunday. My favorite day of the week. I went about yesterday just doing my thing. Little did I know that while I was busy doing my own thing; God had His hands all in it.
I went to Sunday school and got there early as usual because I have to get the Roosters settled in their class. Kristen Mixon (remember that name) was writing upcoming Shandon events on the white board. She was writing a date for an upcoming Grief class being offered at Shandon. I asked her was the program was a good one as I had a friend that just lost her husband at the end of school last year and she might benefit from a class like that. Kristen said the class was wonderful and I should tell my friend about it. On with Sunday school and then off to worship afterwards.
I'm sitting in the sanctuary preparing myself for worship service and reading the "Sneak Peek" screen that shares upcoming events. The grief class announcement pops up and "something" (GOD) says, "You need to go get a bulletin and give it to Ellen (friend that lost her husband to cancer at the end of school last year) tomorrow at school." I get up and get the bulletin, return to my seat, highlight the announcement in the bulletin and fold it up and put it in a side pocket in my purse.
I get to school this AM and walk by Ellen's classroom. She is in her room alone and I WALK BY IT BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO APPROACH HER WITH THE BULLETIN. I go to my classroom and think "I have to get my words together so she won't think I'm a pushy Baptist." About two hours later, ELLEN WALKS INTO MY CLASSROOM to tell me one of her students will be attending the celebration with my class today. I take a deep breath and say, "Ellen, I have something for you. Let me get it." I take the folded bulletin out my purse and tell her, "Ellen, I know you are Catholic and I don't want you to think I'm a pushy Baptist. I just want you to know that God placed you on my heart twice yesterday during church, and I need to give you this. My church is having a grief class and I thought you might be interested. A lady in my Sunday school class said it was a really good class. If this is not something you are interested in at the time, please know that it will not hurt my feelings. I just need to share this with you in case you are interested." Ellen is standing next to me with tears streaming down her face. She said, "Mrs. Dew, I prayed yesterday in church that God lead me to a grief class as I think it would be good for me." I now have tears in my eyes. Ellen opens the bulletin and says, "Shandon?! I have a good friend that I taught with for about seven years at Blythewood Middle that goes to Shandon. Her name is KRISTEN MIXON!" I burst out in tears and we both just hugged and said, "This is so God!"
So while I was just doing my own thing, GOD was doing HIS. While Ellen was praying for a grief class, I was getting a bulletin. While I was trying to get my words together to go TO Ellen, GOD brought Ellen TO me.
"Even from eternity I am He, And there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?" ~ Isaiah 43: 13
How wonderful to know that before creation and throughout history and every moment in every life, God exists and is working HIS will and purpose.
