Today was our district in-service day. It is a day of basically traveling from room to room learning "new" stuff for the upcoming school year. I enjoy it b/c I get to see old friends from all over my district. It is also a day of fun with co-workers as you will be able to see from the photos below. Don't judge us; we are tired. Ha!
This is Laina who is our newest team member. She teaches ELA and social studies. Super organized and has wonderful ideas. We were in a science class here making weather instruments because those that teach science have weather as their first unit of study. Notice the "vane" on her weather vane--she taped it on backwards. We howled.
If Laina putting the vane on her instrument wasn't enough, take a look at my anemometer. Notice anything unusual about it? Yep, it is upside down. I teach math, ELA and social studies. I think Laina and I both are prime examples of what you do NOT want in a science teacher. Poor "thangs." The really sad thing is someone had to TELL us our instruments were backwards and upside down. We didn't even know it even with instructions.
And just how thrilled does Mr. McIntosh look over his newly constructed weather tools? Guess what? He DOES teach science. He loves the FOSS kits he has to use. BaHahahahahaha!
One of my favorite sayings to say to a coworker is "just shoot me now."
I love the look on Mr. Morgan's face.
Margaret preparing her taco salad. I miss her SO much. She is now a math coach for our district. So deserving of the job, but I miss having her across the hall from me. We went to grad school together. She is a nut, but can teach a rock to do math. Very talented musician too.
Mr. Morgan and his black bean soup and salad.
And this would be my empty plate and two bowls. I'm starting my diet Monday (seriously, I really am) and I am enjoying the heck out of some food for the next four days.
After lunch, we went to a math session with Margaret. It just makes me sad to see her at this Smart Board and know she won't be in my classroom with me this year.
These paper bag characters for Greek Mythology gave me the idea to do something similar for European Explorers that we will hit soon in social studies.
This picture is an outlier. Blake had his football cookout tonight, and I had Sam's make 64 cupcakes for me. I thought the football rings were "cute."
Another outlier photo...I just loved this southern house. It was across the street from the school where we were attending in-service meetings and I wanted a shot of it. Today was the perfect day to sit on that porch and sip sweet tea. I think the high for today was only 72 degrees.
Tomorrow my coworkers and I will be heading out to our school's nature trail. Let me just say that I am not a happy camper. I don't like bugs, and I'm thinking our science teachers wouldn't be too appreciative of me if I brought along a big ole spray can of Raid, huh?
