I love that Sunday is always coming!
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. ~ John 16:33 (NIV)
I love the fact that no matter how stressful my week may be, Sunday is coming!
The Colonel had a turn around flight out to Texas very, very, very early Sunday morning. By the time my alarm sounded at 6:30, I had already received a text letting me know he was about to take-off and would text when he landed.
The Roosters and I headed to Sunday school and church. They actually wore the clothes they picked out the night before, and they decided they wanted to dress alike! Wonders never cease. Please know that I prayed diligently that Sunday morning would be peaceful and "easy."
After church, we came home, changed our clothes, went to get my sister and headed to the park for a picnic. I think everyone in Columbia had the same idea. The park near our house was so crowded. The boys enjoyed themselves for about an hour before they asked to go turtle hunting yet again.
Since we didn't have any luck finding turtles in the lake near our home, I decided to head out to the Clemson Extension habitat to try our luck there. Below are a few pictures from our day.
I have a new phone that is supposed to let me take pictures forward facing. Let's just say that I am horrible at taking pictures of myself with any phone. This was actually the best picture I have ever tried to take of myself with the Roosters. We were leaving for church and actually had about a minute or two to spare. (Goofy had her glasses on yet again. I have to wear them to drive and to see the screen at church in order to sing the hymns. HA!)
Wonders never cease--the Roosters are actually touching without hitting. Can you tell which one is the big goof? (Yes, we still have our tattoos. I actually just decided to put the entire pack on them and get it over with at once. Hopefully, they will be sick of looking at them. What's that old saying? If you can't beat them, join them!??)
After church and picking up my sister, we headed to a nearby park for a picnic lunch. I don't know if you can tell from this photo, but it was really crowded. My Roosters joined in a game of frisbee with another group of boys. They had a great time, and I actually got to sit down for about...oh...ten minutes. Yippee!!
This is deep in the woods on a man-made path through the thicket out at the Clemson Wildlife Habitat. Nick wore his camo turtle hunting snake boots. He takes his turtle hunting very serious.
No turtles but we did find LOTS of tadpoles. Do you see the little black dots? No, we did not bring any home! You know it is always best to observe wildlife of any kind it its natural habitat. Wink, wink.
Yes, the Roosters are actually holding hands again while hiking through the woods.
I don't know what these flying bugs are. Termites or no?
This was the "welcome" sign we saw as we started on the path around the lake. Alligators? Really?!! When I read the last sentence to the boys that said, "Do not allow children to throw anything into the water. To an alligator, a splash means food," they immediately started looking for pine cones. WHAT?!! Why?!! Answer: Because we want to see an alligator, Mommy!
BOYS! GGggrrrr!
This is Nick trying to catch a tadpole with his hands.
And he did it!! He actually got really good at it.
This is the lake we walked around and around and around and around...:)
Poor John Ryan. That child hates to get dirty and always manages to have a messy accident. As we were walking around the lake, he stepped into some mushy grass and got mud all over his new shoes. He refused to keep the shoe on and opted to walk the return trip back to the truck with one shoe on and one shoe off. Of course, "the mom" had to carry the icky, stinky shoe.
I don't know what kind of flower this was, but this bush smelled soooooo good. The flowers were beautiful too. It reminded me of honeysuckle and might have been a type that I haven't seen. I have no idea. I'm not a plant person.
Repeat photo. I couldn't delete it. :(
Sweetness!
John Ryan on my bed getting ready to read his Bible to me. The Roosters are trying to read their Bible all the way through. They are doing such a great job that I ordered The Jesus Storybook Bible. I read about it over at Kelly's Korner. (I don't know how to link blogs yet--sorry!) I haven't received it yet, but the reviews were very positive and the "peek inside" was promising.
So that was our Sunday afternoon. I literally left my house at 8:10 for church and returned twice during the day for maybe 15 minutes at the most before heading out again on our next adventure. It was a really good day, but I was beyond tired when I finally got to bed. The world of boys is a most wonderful thing!
