June 13 Happenings
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. ~ John 15: 1-11
The day started off rather slowly around here. The big Rooster had conditioning for football, so he was at the high school bright and early. I piddled between rooms and tried to get motivated to do something besides just walk around the house. I finally dragged the mop bucket out and decided to splash some water on a few floors. Cleaning the house is kinda of like going to the gym--once I get started, I really get into it, but it takes forever for me to decide to just do something. I am so NOT a domestic goddess. The domestic bug hits me in waves and trust me, the waves are few and far between. So, with all that being said, here is today in pictures.
This started my motivation--a BLT (minus the lettuce) sandwich. A bacon and tomato sandwich with mustard (no mayo--blah) is my favorite sandwich of the summer. I love a BT with a fresh cucumber or plate of field peas with a hot pepper chopped in it. Yummy!
Nick loves watermelon. I like it with salt but he just wants his plain. I just buy it already cut up in those plastic containers at Publix.
John Ryan is still a huge fan of apple juice. All he drinks is apple juice and water.
This is Mouse looking at me like I have issues. He follows me around like a dog. He doesn't care much for Roosters though. I think it is their noise level that sends him into seclusion.
I surprised the big Rooster by registering him for a day of football camp with Gamecock player Marcus Lattimore. I guess I should say "former" Gamecock Marcus Lattimore since he went pro.
I looked through the latest Lakeshore catalog for fun but educational games for the boys. If you are not familiar with this company, I hope you'll look it up. It has some really quality games, toys and materials for children. My Roosters love almost everything I have ever ordered for them from Lakeshore. Their items are very reasonably priced and the quality is great.
I found the boys watching TV once today. They both looked like they were about to fall asleep. Nick was cuddling with his doggy.
John Ryan was being a dog (or is that a wolf?).
Late this afternoon, we headed to Hair Doodles so "Miss" Sheila could give the boys a trim. John Ryan has been asking for a cut since Sunday. These are the Roosters headed to the car.
Nick-a-Roni
Handsome Rooster if I do say so myself!
John Ryan is so Type-A. Bless his little pointed head. He spends his entire time in the chair flicking hair off his cape onto the floor. Notice there is none on the cape. Ha!
John Ryan wouldn't let me take his picture when Miss Sheila finished cutting his hair, so I got a picture of how cute he is while he helped me shuck corn for supper.
While the boys were actually playing together and not fighting, I decided to work on the next lesson in my Bible study on James. I don't know how other people study, but I have to take up the entire couch or side of a bed. Here I have my workbook where you see my notes in yellow. My Bible is under my study book because Moore has you looking up scriptures a lot, and of course, it is a BIBLE study. The small book at the top is another study book I had on James. It explains each verse in terms of meanings of Greek words and things like that. I love, love, love seeing how God connects events throughout the Bible.
And this was supper tonight...Eggplant Parmesan and fresh corn-on-the-cob. I was raised by a truly southern grandmother who cooked Sunday meals every day of the week. We always had a meat, starch, two veggies, bread and dessert. I have really had to work hard not to cook such big meals. I figured the eggplant and tomato sauce served as the two veggies and the corn was the starch. HA! I'm looking at this picture and that meal does not look good at all, but I promise we ate the entire dish.
Berry shortcake for dessert! Yummy!!
Now I am where I was last night at this time--on the sofa because I ate too much yet again. There is supposed to be a severe thunderstorm heading through our area tonight. I love thunderstorms as long as they don't do any damage. I remember sitting on the front porch of my grandparents' home when I was a child watching the summer storms come up. My grandfather could tell if we were going to get the storm based on where the clouds were coming in from. If the sky behind "Miss" Clara's house got dark, we would get the storm. I love the smell of rain in the distance and the sound of rain on a roof. I remember sitting on the arm of granddad's rocking chair seeing the lightning flash and counting until I heard the thunder to see how far away the storm was. When things got bad, we would head into the house where my sister and I were always told to be quiet because God was doing His work. If the power went off, we would head to the living room and grandmother would play the piano for a bit. She played by ear and we would take turns asking her to play a song we wanted to hear. Oh, the joy of childhood memories that I still cherish.
